A Time of Change at Asotin County Library

As many of you know, the recent levy lid lift for the Asotin County Library did not pass. With 45% of voters in support, the measure fell short, so the library will be making a few changes in the coming months to help manage the budget. What won’t change: our dedication to you and the community we serve.

Important Changes

Changes to Hours and Locations
Beginning January 1, 2026 the Asotin County Library will be closed Sundays and Mondays.

The Heights Branch will close on December 24, 2025. While this is a difficult decision, the branch is not closing permanently. Until funding is restored, the building will be occasionally used for library programs and as a meeting space for civic groups. The book drop will continue to be available. Please allow 24 to 48 hours for materials returned to the Heights Branch book drop to be checked in.

Staffing Adjustments
To absorb the loss of anticipated revenue, several staffing changes will take place. Some salaried positions will transition to hourly roles, one full-time position will be reduced to part-time, two substitute positions will be removed from the budget, and a currently vacant library assistant position will remain unfilled. Beginning in 2026, full-time employees will contribute more toward their medical premiums.

Programs
Even with these changes, the library remains committed to offering meaningful programs for the community. The grant-funded educational exhibit garden and StoryWalk® project at the Heights Branch will continue.

We are incredibly grateful for the support we continue to receive from the Friends of the Asotin County Library, the ACL Foundation, and generous community members. Their contributions enable us to continue a number of programs and services during this challenging period.

Thank You
We appreciate our community’s patience and support as we navigate these changes. The library’s mission to advance intellectual curiosity, promote lifelong learning, and provide educational and recreational materials remains unwavering. We will continue to work toward restoring full services in the future.
